Obviously from the combination of two words, the ancient city of Thestie, called Thestia and the olive grove, of a very large area located between the three Municipal Districts (Kainouriou, Panetolio, Nea Avorani) and now is full of olive trees, the divine gift of the olive tree.

3rd OLIVE OIL AND OLIVE FESTIVAL 2009
The University of Patras was awarded for its contribution to the development of olive cultivation in the Municipality of Diakopto and its research results in the Municipality of Thestie.
Honorary distinction
Honorary distinction was given to the Mayor of the Thestie and Attorney of the Court of Appeal Supreme Court Mr. Dimitrios Trapeziotis for his contribution to the continuation of the olive-growing cultural heritage in the municipality of Thestie.

This olive grove has a demonstrative and research character. The cultivation of the olive tree is based on the model of “agrobiodynamic management” proposed by the research team of the University of Patras in the variety of “Koroneiki” olive tree and certified by the control and certification organization «DIO». Mr. Dimitris Siadimas is one of the producers selected in the framework of the research program “Development of the organic way of production of plant and livestock products in the Municipality of Thestie” 2006-2010 funded by the Municipality of Thestie and the research team for the biological production method of the Department of Biology of the University of Patras with the researcher Mrs. Athina Theodorakopoulou and the assistant professor Mr. K. Aggelopoulos. Mr. Dimitris Siadimas is also one of the producers selected in the framework of the research program “Development of the biological way of cultivating plant products” funded by the company AB Vassilopoulos AEVE and implemented by the research team on the biological production method of the Department of Biology of the University Patras with the researcher Mrs. Athina Theodorakopoulou and the Deputy Professor – Researcher Mr. K. Aggelopoulos.
For millennia, the olive tree has been cultivated for its unique fruit: the olive. What makes the fruit and oil of Koroneiki olive different from the other olives in the area, is the cultivation method applied to this farm. Unlike many other crops, there is no artificial watering. The special flavor, the aroma of olive oil produced by these olives is indeed very special and unique. The harvest of olives on the farm begins towards the end of each year. With hard work, valuable fruits are harvested with the machine pneumatica colligi. The fruits are transported for cold pressing to the ecological mill of Mr. Athanasios Tzoumerkiotis on the opposite bank of Trichonida in Makrinia.
Maintaining soil fertility is an important part of the management of this olive grove, which aims to maintain good fertility and the natural state of the olive grove. The soil structure and its texture have a direct effect on water retention, its ventilation and influence the development of roots and the development of beneficial microorganisms. For fertilization, green fertilizers are used with organic materials (animal and plant manure) as well as microorganisms, while organic fertilizer “super eco vas” is added to the forms permitted by Regulation 2092/91.
Plant protection in the olive grove aims to prevent diseases and competing species, requiring only the necessary interventions to be performed. Only when it is necessary, organic preparations and insecticides (of plant origin) are used, authorized by Regulation (EEC) No 2091/92. The levels of insults from the known insects (mainly the fungus and the nucleus) are trapped to monitor their populations.

The Top Distinction was awarded to two fine olive oils from Panetolio that were equally voted in the first place. It was the olive oil of Upper Roupakia and Roupakia Biological Olive Oil of D. Siadima <Athena> of the Municipality of Thestie. The twin, producer – standardizers – University of Patras and Siadima – Athena Theodorakopoulou proved that continuous care, passion and persistent and long-term effort, literally from planting to standardization, are ultimately rewarded

Olive oil quality competition, in the framework of the workshop February 2, 2013, at the Papastrateio Megaron of Agrinio organized by the Bio-cultivation Environmental company Trichonida Biotrichonis
The supervision and organization of the competition was under the auspices of the Organoleptic Group of the Scientific non-profit association, Club of Friends olive oil ‘ FILAIOS ‘, which among other things organizes and awards annually in the best Greek Olive oils, the famous ‘ KOTINOS ‘ awards
In the local competition, nine extra virgin olive oils were awarded, while the entries were 34 mostly of the main local variety «Koytsoyrelia»

The producers Dimitris Siadimas, Theodoros Zoris, Christos Koumasis, K Xirokostas Stratos Tsarouchis Dimitris Koumasis and Dimitris Trapeziotis are selected producers of Biotrichonidas in the framework of the research programme “Development of biological Production of plant products “2011-2013 and 2013-2019 sponsored by the Company Bros P. Vasilopouloi SA which is implemented by the research group for the biological method of production of the Department of Biology of the University of Patras with the Researcher Mr. Athena Theodorakopoulou and T. Associate Professor Mr. K. Angelopoulos. The cultivation of olives is based on the model of “Agrobiodynamic Management” proposed by the research team of the University of Patras in a variety of olives Koroneiki and Koutsourelia or Patras or Ladolia and Kalamon”. The fruits are transported for cold extraction in the ecological mill of Mr. Athanasios Tzoumerkiotis on the opposite bank of Trichonida in Makrineia and in the Mills of Konstantopoulos-Tarantoumi in Bareia, F. Kolovos in Pantanassa and Fotis Muca in Gavalou of Makryneia.
